Thompson, CT. Helen Mary (Thorpe) Mead, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in her home. Her husband, Edward M. Mead, Sr. died in 1989. She leaves 3 children, Edward M. Mead, Jr., of Quinebaug, Donald E. Mead of Dudley and Carol A. Mead of Thompson, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and a brother, Herbert Blake Thorpe of Manchester, N.H. Besides her husband , she was predeceased by a son Patrick Mead. Mary was born in Deerfield, MA. the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Chase) Thorpe and moved to Connecticut at age 16. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dudley, worked in the bookstore at Nichols College and their post office. Mary was a gifted writer and had poems published at Nichols, she enjoyed history, puzzles, newspaper clippings, was a rock hoarder, loved nagging, complaining, short hair on boys and coffee with her late sister Clara. There are No Calling Hours. Mary’s Graveside Service will be Private for family at Corbin Cemetery in Dudley.
