Donald Michaels, of Webster, died Wednesday, December 5th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester. He leaves his twin sister, Donna M. Macduff and her husband Edward, with whom he lived; and his beloved cats, Bernard, Bernie, and Charlie. He was born in Worcester, the son of Anthony and Margaret (Usket) Michaels and worked for University of Massachusetts Hospital, now UMass Memorial for 26 years, retiring in May due to illness. Donald lived out his strong beliefs. He worshipped nature with its beauty and its relation to humankind. He was a lifelong vegetarian who felt that no harm should come to anything if it walks, flies, or swims. Another belief was his work ethic; He often said, “A bad day at work is better than no work-appreciate what you have.” Donald’s family is very grateful to the VNA Care Hospice for their compassionate home care and to Donald’s coworkers at UMass for their constant care and concern during his illness. The funeral is Saturday, December 8th, with a service at 10:00 A.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A visiting hour is from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. Saturday in the funeral home. Memoiral contributions may be made to the Community Cat Connection, 289 Main Street, Webster, MA 01570 or the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
