WEBSTER – George E. Giroux, 86, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard after being stricken ill at home. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Norma A. (Rybacki) Giroux; 2 sons, Jay E. Giroux and his wife Sandra of Dudley and Kevin E. Giroux and his wife Tracy of Webster; 5 grandchildren, Tony, Karlee, Jake, Sam and Erin Giroux; 2 great-grandchildren, Hayley and Cody; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother. He was born in Worcester, the son of Albert and Annette A. (Levasseur) Giroux and lived in Spencer for 8 years before moving to Webster in 1936. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1946 to 1948 as a seaman second class. Mr. Giroux first worked in construction for LaPlante Brothers for 27 years. He then was the custodian at the Webster Town Hall for 21 years before he retired in 1999. He was a weekly adorer at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Mr. Giroux graciously donated his body to Harvard Medical School in Boston for anatomical and biological research. Webster Vivian Y. (Jette) Smith, 84, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge after a brief illness. Her husband, Mike smith passed away in 1974. She leaves behind 3 children, Deborah Warchol and her husband Kenneth of Northbridge, Mike Smith, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Thompson, CT., and Fred Smith of Dudley. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Lindsay and Keri Warchol, Stacey, Maureen and Coleson Smith and Nicole Smith. She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Joann Seraphin, and was predeceased by a daughter-in-law Cathy Smith. She was born in Douglas, the daughter of Fred and Blanche (Manville) Jette, and was the only child. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1951 and lived in Washington, D.C., the Phillipines, Savannah, GA., and Bangor, Maine with her husband who was in an Air Force career veteran for over 20 years. They moved to Webster in 1968, which she called home ever since. She was a long time member of St. Louis Parish in Webster. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, especially on the holidays and at the many family functions. She also loved to spend time with her many close friends over morning coffee or at lunch. Vivian was a kind, loving and upbeat lady and loved living life. She always had a joke or funny comment that gave everyone around her a good laugh. There are No Calling Hours. At Vivian’s request there are No Funeral Services. Burial will be at a later date after cremation. She will be layed to rest at St. Denis Cemetery in Douglas alongside her husband and her parents. The ROBERT J. Webster Jeanette B. (Ozog) Godzik, 93, formerly of Webster departed her earthly home to join her heavenly family on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Jeanette grew up in Whitinsville where she worked at the Whitin Machine Works during her young adult years. She married Francis J. Godzik, a photographer and furniture business man, in 1950 thereby moving to Webster. It was there that she raised two beautiful daughters while assisting in the operation of Godzik Studio, Frank’s photography business. Jeanette was an active member of the Webster community. For many years, her family participated in the St. Joseph Parish groups, including the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club, and the Brownie and Girl Scout Associations. For, Jeanette, it was all about her family. They were always the first consideration of her life. Jeanette will always be remembered by her daughters as a nurturing mom who instilled strong core values, both ethical and educational. She and Frank worked hard to provide the support to send both their daughters through college and graduate level programs. Both girls have found success: Gail M. Arsenault of Thompson, CT., is a retired public school Administrator who served the Northbridge School district for 36 years and is presently a consultant and professional development provider for the MA. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Dr. Cathleen A. Godzik is a practicing orthopedic surgeon residing in Hollywood, CA. Jeanette’s granddaughter , Julie C. Arsenault, is a graduate of MIT and works in marketing for a firm in San Francisco, CA. She made St. Camillus her home in 2010 and made many wonderful friends here among the staff, residents and their families. She will always be grateful to the entire staff, administration, maintenance personnel and Father Jack for making her stay here both comfortable and cheerful. Jeanette will be missed but never forgotten as she peers down at us all from her place of rest in heaven. May God bless us all and keep us in His grace always. Written by Gail M. WEBSTER- Harriet E. (Nawrocki) Stoica, 96, died Friday, January 30, 2015 after an illness. Her husband of 18 years, Nicholas Stoica, died in 1969. She was born in Webster, the oldest child of Wladyslaw and Felicia (Dzienisewicz) Nawrocki and lived here all her life. Harriet was employed by Stevens Linen Associates in Dudley for 25 years, working in the linen calendar towel production area. She was the recipient of the National Safety Council’s Employee of the Year Award for her accomplishments at Stevens; it was presented at the annual awards banquet. After her husband’s untimely death, she worked full-time to provide a nurturing home and family life for her two children. She retired in 1990. A homemaker before her years at Stevens Linen, she enjoyed cooking and baking (especially her delicious gingerbread). Having grown up in the Great Depression, she knew how to manage and budget her resources for the benefit of her family. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor. Mrs. Stoica was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality and Sacred Heart Society. She loved dancing, especially waltzes: her husband and she were the most graceful couple on the floor. She leaves a daughter, Janet E. Stoica, with whom she lived; a son, David Stoica and his wife Ann Marie of Paxton; a granddaughter, Mary Ann Manning and her husband Craig; a grandson, Nicholas Stoica and his longtime companion Sara Davis; a great-granddaughter, Danielle Davis; 2 sisters, Alice Lazur of Woodstock, CT and Johanna “Jennie” Huard of Spencer; her sister-in-law, Marie (Lavallee) Nawrocki, who was also her caregiver and special friend; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Walter Nawrocki died in 2007. The funeral will be held TUESDAY, February 3, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. SWIDNIK, POLAND/WEBSTER –Andrzej Eugeniusz Korczak, 71, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at his home in Swidnik, Poland surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. His wife, Stanislawa Krystyna (Szeniawska) Korczak, died in 1995. He leaves 2 daughters, Sylwia M. Kohut and her husband Stephen Thompson Kohut of Webster; Agata Sadlo and her husband Jacob Sadlo of Swidnik; and 4 grandchildren, Faustina Helen Kohut, and Matthew, Luke and John Sadlo of Swidnik. He was born in Radom, Poland. He was awarded an engineering degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Warsaw. He lived in Swidnik most of his life. Mr. Korczak was employed as an engineer at the helicopter division of PZL-Swidnik for many years before retiring. An ardent history and geography buff, Andrzej enjoyed reading and studying maps. He took great pride in tending his own gardens in the countryside. He was a devoted father, loving “Dzadzi” and loyal friend. His funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, January 12 in Christ the Redeemer Church, Swidnik followed by burial in Kazimierzowka Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 7, in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street, Dudley. He was preceded in death by 7 brothers and a sister. He was born in Webster, a son of Ovide and Lea (Robidoux) Cournoyer and was a lifelong resident. He served his country proudly as an Army veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater with the Statue of Liberty Division. Mr. Cournoyer was a process inspector at Wyman-Gordon in Grafton before he retired in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Basilica. He was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his neighbors and friends. He liked bird watching and enjoyed the company of his cats, Frankie, Booboo and Cocoa. His greatest pleasure though, came from time spent with his family and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels of Southbridge and the VNA Care Network & Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care of their father. The funeral will be held Saturday, February 21, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Webster Adelard J. “Moe” Millette, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. His wife of over 50 years, Lois Anne (Bair) Millette died January 8, 2008, he was also predeceased by a son, Scott Bryan Millette who died December 27, 2006. He leaves behind 2 daughters, Bonnie Sue Meagher and Heidi Anne Kuszewski and her husband Ronald C. Kuszewski all of Webster and 2 grand-daughters, Shana Lynne Meagher and Kallie Rae Meagher and 2 sisters, Doris Mrazik and Eunice Bastek. He was predeceased by a brother Harold Radziewicz and 2 sisters, Betty Hade and Lorraine Streich. Moe was born in Webster a son of the late Adelard and Lydia (Meyer) Millette and has lived here all his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War earning three battle stars and the combat infantryman badge. He served with distinction with the 15th Infantry in Korea from March 27, 1952 to December 31, 1953 and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for the former Cranston Print Works Company for 43 years as a colorist, Supervisor and Fire Chief of the Cranston Print Works Fire Department and retired February 28, 1993. Moe was President of the Thompson Rod and Gun Club and a member of American Legion Post #184. He enjoyed fishing, the casino and was very well known as a drummer for many area bands. WEBSTER, MA/CAIRO, NY – Elizabeth C. Ziemski (nee Wynne) a.k.a. Veronica Martell, peacefully passed away at home and into the waiting arms of God, on Friday, February 13, 2015, with her daughter holding her hand. Elizabeth was born in Dublin, Ireland, to the late James and Elizabeth (nee Mulvey) Wynne. She was the eldest of eight children. While in her teens, Elizabeth traveled to London, England, to live with an aunt and uncle who, were in showbiz. She was taught the art of juggling and became a master in it. Elizabeth was in Stockholm, Sweden, when John Ringling North of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus saw her performing, under the stage name Veronica Martell, and signed her up for the 1951 season with the circus. Coming to America was one of the greatest thrills of her life and she remained faithful to the red, white and blue flag. It was in 1951 that Cecil B. DeMille’s movie “The Greatest Show on Earth” was filmed, based on the Ringling Circus, in which Veronica Martell the Juggling Colleen, and other actual circus performers appeared in the movie. 1951 was a banner year for Veronica as she met Robert Ziemski, who worked with the circus. It was a love match made in heaven. When the circus season was over, they left for Robert’s home town of Webster, MA, and were married in 1952. Joy and motherhood came in 1953 when their only child, Christine, was born. Veronica wanted to return to showbiz and so the trio set off traveling around the globe. In the late 1960’s she retired from the “Lime Lights” settling down to the domestic life as Elizabeth. Her beloved husband, Robert, passed away in 1987, but, her broken heart was mended with the birth of her grandson, Robert Zaroba, in 1988.She relished being “Nanny” to her grandson, whom she spoiled and loved dearly. In 1998, she came to live with her daughter, recovering from an illness. Elizabeth became a parishioner of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Cairo, NY, and was welcomed into the fold by Rev. Jeremiah Nunan and all who met her. Hearts were again broken when Grandson Robert Zaroba was called home by God on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000. Throughout her life Elizabeth had a feisty spirit, loved life and always looked on the bright side. She greeted one and all with a hug and a kiss on both cheeks. She loved all animals. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband and grandson. She is also predeceased by her sisters Chrissy(Wynne) Rita (Iggulden)and Moira(Mapes) Martell, who followed Elizabeth into showbiz as jugglers. She is also predeceased by her brothers – Eamon, a musician and James. She is also predeceased by a cousin- Anitia Martell, Juggler. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Christine Ziemski-Zaroba, a sister- Kathleen Doyle(Billy) Emmet Wynne (Marie) and an abundance of nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and America. On Sunday, February 15, 2015, Elizabeth was waked at Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo, NY. On Monday, February 16, 2015, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Anthony Motta at Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, NY. Friday, February 20, 2015, Elizabeth will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Ziemski family plot in St. Joseph Cemetery, Webster, MA. WEBSTER – Richard A. Perkins, 86, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Worcester Rehab & Healthcare Center after a period of declining health. He leaves a sister, Pauline A. Perkins and a niece Paula, both of Webster; and cousins. He was born in Webster, the son of Stanley and Alice L. (Martel) Perkins Morin and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1946. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He studied at the Personnel Administrative School in Fort Bragg, NC for a year. Mr. Perkins first worked as a beautician in Worcester, Southbridge and Auburn. He then was employed by Cranston Print Works Company for 17 years. He was the billing manager for R. H. White Construction Co. in Auburn for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He enjoyed oil and acrylic painting and took special pride in his extensive flower garden. A memorial Mass will be offered in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street at a later date. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Brittany Gauthier-Watson, 21, formerly of Webster, MA passed away on Thursday January 29, 2015 in Mesa, AZ after a long illness. Brittany leaves her mother and best friend, Tina Watson of Payson, AZ; her father Keith Gauthier of Leominster, MA; her Brother Joseph Gauthier-Watson of Worcester; her maternal grandparents Carol and Andrew Watson of Payson, AZ; her paternal grandparents Judith and Roger Gauthier of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brittany was born with Cerebral Palsy and Osteopenia (Brittle Bone Disease). Brittany attended school at Alfred M. Chaffe and Oxford High School in Oxford, MA. She enjoyed spending time out and participating in her community activities both in and out of school. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Brittany’s family from 10:00 until 11:30 AM Saturday February 28th at O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue Worcester. A funeral service celebrating Brittany’s life will be held at 11:30 am following the calling hours. WEBSTER – Rachel V. (Chauvin) Gagnon, 92, formerly of Webster, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 in Life Care Center of Auburn after a short illness. Her husband of almost 50 years, Raymond E. “Chick” Gagnon, Sr., died in 1994. She leaves a daughter, Karen A. Curry of Centennial, CO; 2 grandchildren, Kelcey E. Hoyt and her husband Jeffrey of Brookfield, CT and Brent L. Curry and his wife Amy of San Diego, CA; 2 great-grandchildren, Amanda and Colin; a brother, Dr. John H. Chauvin and his wife Mary of Olmstead Falls, OH; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond E. “Champy” Gagnon in 1971, by her sister, Elaine B. Picazio in 1990 and by her brother, Leonard A. Chauvin in 2010. She was born and raised in Webster, a daughter of John B. Chauvin, Jr. and Stella G. (Radziewicz) Chauvin and lived in Webster until moving to Eddy Pond in Auburn in 2012. She graduated from Bartlett High School and from the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Gagnon was a registered nurse at Worcester City Hospital in her youth and in later life at other hospitals. She spent the remainder of her life being a homemaker. She was a communicant of Saint Louis Church. She enjoyed writing and cooking. Her approach to politics was conservative. The funeral will be held Thursday, February 26, at 11:00 AM in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake Street (please meet at the church). Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Joseph Raymond “Stretch” Harrigan 2/23/2015 Webster, MA
WEBSTER – Joseph Raymond “Stretch” Harrigan, 88, died Monday, February 23, 2015 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard after an illness. His first wife, Helen (Fitzback) Harrigan died in 1986. His second wife, Shirley M. (Holt) Harrigan died in 1995. He leaves a son, David P. Harrigan and his wife Cheryl of Dudley; a daughter, Nancy J. Loomis and her husband Lawrence of Plainfield, CT; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Poirier and her husband Brian of Franklin, Lawrence E. Loomis, Jr. and his fiancée Megan Ledoux of Moosup, David D. Loomis and his wife Amanda Lynne of Dayville, CT, and Jillian K. Loomis and Edward J. Loomis, both of Plainfield, CT; 4 great-grandchlldren, Connor, Cameron, Charlie and Caleigh Poirier; his longtime companion of 18 years, Vivian Ducharme; a stepson, Kenneth Patrowicz of Florida; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Leclair of Connecticut; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher J. Loomis in 1989, by a granddaughter, Colleen Harrigan in 2007 and by his sister, Marion Pederson. He was born in Webster, the son of Harry J. and Grace M. (Bonneau) Harrigan and lived in Webster most of his life. He graduated from St. Louis High School, where he was the center on the varsity basketball team. He later attended Webster Trade School to study to be an electrician. When he first married, he lived in Oxford from 1955 to 1967. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Diamond Head in the North Atlantic. Mr. Harrigan worked for Massachusetts Electric Company in substation maintenance for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He then worked in grounds maintenance at Nichols College Golf Course in Dudley for 10 years. He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He was a member of the Nichols College Golf Course, where he worked in the morning and golfed in the afternoon. He was a life member of the Auburn-Webster Lodge of Elks #2118 and also of the Killdeer Island Club. He was a square dancing enthusiast and participated in many tournaments including one at the World’s Fair in New York City. He loved to travel. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. The funeral will be held Monday, March 2, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be held privately. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, March 1, in the funeral home. Josephine (Mozdzierz) Belec Harrington 2/21/2015 Webster, MA
WEBSTER – Josephine C. Harrington, 93, completed her life’s journey on Saturday, February 21, 2015, with her family at her side. Her first husband, Roland A. Belec died in 1969, and her second husband Charles Augustus Harrington died in 1982. Josephine leaves her daughter, Patricia B. Korch and her husband Kenneth, of Dudley; sisters, Rita Blair, of Middleboro, MA; and Theresa Zaganiacz of Gilbertville, MA; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her dear friends Pearl and Mathilda. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Rose Grzyb, Emily Gromelski, Gertrude Kosnoski, Isabel Corbin and Sophia O’Connell; and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Mozdzierz. Josephine was born in Webster, the daughter of Albert and Antonia (Suss) Mozdzierz. She attended St. Joseph School. She worked as a French cord stitcher at the Diamond Eisenberg Shoe Corporation for 30 years before retiring. Josephine was a communicant of St. Joseph Basilica, and a former member of the St. Joseph Polish Woman’s Club. She served on the club board and chaired many committees. She was a life member of the Polish American Veterans (PAV) of Webster and served as board president for four years, as a trustee, and was an active committee member. She enjoyed making pierogi with other PAV members to help fundraise. Josephine was an excellent cook and baker, adept at sewing and craftwork, and enjoyed reading, word games, and spending time with her friends. Josephine loved her family dearly, and served as a caregiver and healthcare advocate for her own parents, parents-in-law, both husbands, and for many family members in their time of need. The family extends their gratitude to the caregivers at Webster Manor for the loving attention they gave Josephine over the past two years. The funeral mass to celebrate Josephine’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street in Webster. (Please meet a the Basilica.) Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. There are no calling hours. Boutilette and his fiancée Jessica Hyrzan of Thompson, CT; a grandson, Jonathan P. Boutilette, Jr.; a brother, William J. Boutilette and his wife Debra of Webster; 4 sisters, Theresa M. (Duefield) Boutilette and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Boutilette first worked for Towne Paving as a laborer. He then was a machinist at Super Winch in Putnam for several years. He enjoyed mechanics.
