WEBSER –Joan P. (Killoran) Choiniere, 84, of Webster died Monday, June 24, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital.
She leaves her husband of 63 years, L. Roland Choiniere; 7 children, David P. Choiniere of Webster, Stephen R. Choiniere and his wife Rebecca of Knox, NY, Robert P. Choiniere and his wife Linda of Gibsonia, PA, Mary-Jane Verdier and her husband Patrick of Cumberland, RI, Thomas R. Choiniere and his wife Christine of Saratoga, NY, Carol-Anne Allen and her husband Scott of Milford, and John D. Choiniere of Webster; 15 grandchildren, Katherine, Daniel and Anne Choiniere, Alyssa and Nicholas Choiniere, Thomas, Michael and Patrick Verdier, Matthew, Philip, Mark and Nicole Choiniere, and Patricia, Leah and George Allen; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Marie and Helen and by her brothers Thomas and John.
She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Toohill) Killoran. She graduated from Ascension Elementary School and then from Commerce High School in 1947. She lived in Oxford for 12 years, moving to Webster in 1963.
In her teens, Joanie was employed as a “soda jerk” at a drug store in Kelley Square in Worcester; and later she worked as a secretary at Norton Company, now St. Gobain, also in Worcester.
Joan was one of those rare individuals who, from their youth, possess a clear vision of what they want out of life; and she was privileged to be among that small number who actually see that dream fulfilled completely. That dream was to have a home and a family: to be a wife, mother, and homemaker. And that vision bore great fruit.
In her lifelong career as wife, mother, (later grandmother) and homemaker she worked tirelessly, sacrificing her convenience in order to fulfill the vision which so deeply moved her: to love her husband and family. Her great faith and prayer-life gave her the strength to carry this out, through thick and thin.
She was all her life a woman of prayer. She also fulfilled various roles over the years at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, where she was a communicant, and at St. Ann School. In her later years, she was one of the Adorers in the Emmaus Center Chapel, as well as a volunteer in the parish RCIA program.
Those who knew her closely will recall the ready smile and cheer she offered to those around her, in spite of the many bodily sufferings she had to undergo. Her life of prayer and self-sacrifice gave her such courage and strength.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 29, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School
Street, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
