She was born in Webster, the daughter of Eugene and Ida Mai (Vachon) Leboeuf and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Saint Anne’s Elementary School in 1934, Bartlett High School in 1938 and earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Lowell Teachers’ College in 1942. She also completed courses at the Fred Waring Summer School in Shawnee, Delaware. She worked at the family ice cream business Nectar Products on School Street in her high school and college years.
Mrs. Puliafico first taught in the Narragansett School System. She then became the music teacher and supervisor from grades K through 12 in Webster, and later taught music at Bartlett High School for many years, retiring in 1973. She directed the Bartlett High School Choir. Known affectionately by her students as “Mrs. P.,” the choir performed at the Annual Boston Common Christmas Show with organist John Keilly, on WBZ Channel 4 Sunday Show “Odyssey” with Jack Borden, at the New York World’s Fair in both 1963 and 1964, at the Montreal Expo in 1967 and at Disneyworld in 1973. She directed the Bartlett Alumni Choir in Rome to sing for Pope John Paul II in 1999. An accomplished pianist, she composed a song called “The Twelve Days After Christmas” which is still played during the holidays today. She also directed a group callled the “Jacqueliers” which performed in local concerts. She also enjoyed mentioning that she accompanied Celine Dionne, a Florida neighbor, and did the same for Perry Como and Vic Damone.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and its Ladies of Saint Anne. She and her husband donated the funds for Puliafico Hall in the parish center. She was a member of the former Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild. Along with her husband Charlie, she established scholarships to benefit students of athletics, nursing, music, chemistry and chemical engineering at the University of Lowell. In 2002, they received the Distinguished Alumni Award.
She became a grandmother in 1971. Since then, she spent countless hours of enjoyment attending sporting events, playing at concerts, hosting holiday gatherings and entertaining her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation “Mrs. P’s” extended family and friends, the members of the Bartlett Alumni Choir and many other former students for their hard work and willingness to come to rehearsals and perform shows in their adult years, as well as their support and love for her.
